By the river of Babylon

There was the Euphrates,

splitting Babylon in two.

There was a side on the west,

but there was a side on the east too.

Once they were united,

now split in two.

There stood a man on the west,

but there was a woman on the east too.

They weren't afar, yet they were apart

Their heart was beating together.

But the river, oh the river...

made them lonely forever.

The bank was so smooth and warm

each day there was a new hope born.

To be put out in the warm sand

they had to bare this cursed land.

So they sat down, facing one another,

the woman sat across was like no other.

Her face, a lightbeam, rejoice the treasure!

Her hair like gold, a forsaken pleasure.

As would no one touch her,

beauty so pure.

God intended, to be a newborn.

Bring the man a sanctuary.

And she opened her mouth,

a word was given away

But the river, oh the river...

It blew it away!

The only place where a man could love.

Finally a bit of hope to bloom in the heart.

Her hair, her face, her body,

to hell with this river, no one can stop me!

And so he dove into the river,

his lifeless body floated away.

And so the woman dove into the river,

now two lives thrown away.

They left that day, they left Babylon

their bodies cast onto ground.

Both of them holding each other.

They were now crowned.

As they both lay there, lifeless,

down came the Lord.

He raised them high,

shed a tear, the tear fallen on their eyes.

They were alive, in the palm of god

The man asked her name,

not a word, but she smiled.

She didn't have to, for they were in the palm of God.

Adam, why are you afraid?

I am not afraid, I am happy.

I am happy that I found my Eve.

Then be happy, as long as you live.

God put them down again,

onto the common land.

Stars gazed above their heads, not a sound to be made.

They looked behind them, there was Babylon.

The city, all as one.

Because there was no longer a river that would split it apart.

And so were they one.

Because there was no question, no act that would split them apart.

And they loved each other.

They loved and cried,

to the very day when they had to say their goodbye

Life was over, before they knew, they died holding each other.

As they had their final breaths,

their souls left together.

As the sun set on their graves,

there flowed the Tigris and Euphrates together...
